The College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) successfully held its inaugural Student Research Expo, Built Different. Engineered Better., showcasing the innovative work of its students. The event featured five finalists who delivered oral research presentations, along with more than 70 students presenting research posters. Bailey Zalewski, a senior Civil Engineering student, earned the Best Research Presentation Award for her study on pedestrian safety and accessibility around WMATA D.C. Metrorail stations. Her research examined the relationship between pedestrian crash patterns, walkability conditions, and station-level ridership across both pre- and post–COVID-19 periods in the District of Columbia. The project was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Luwei Zeng, Research Engineer in the College.
