Led by Team Captain Kathleen Awason and Design Team Chair Sophia Baumann, the Bison Steel Bridge Competition Team successfully designed and constructed a 23-foot steel bridge with support from Hallmark Iron Works. The team traveled to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown to compete in the 2026 Mid-Atlantic ASCE Student Symposium, facing off against regional programs. The annual competition challenges students to design, fabricate, and assemble a scale-model steel bridge under timed conditions, followed by rigorous load testing. In addition to the Steel Bridge Competition, the Howard team also participated in the sustainability poster and ethics paper presentations. The team was proudly supported by alumni, Howard ASCE Student Chapter members, faculty advisor Dr. Sanjib Sharma, and Dr. Robert Efimba.
